We are proud of Year 7 students, Queen and Tilly who attended the National Year of Reading Events with local Authors, hosted to boost Literacy and reading community wide and engage children, families and community in activities, animation and doodle art skills, listening to stories etc.
It was an educational event, whilst also being a fun dry day out. Both students attended at St Helens Library - World of Glass where they met Sue Gerrard a local journalist and storywriter on Coronation Street, - (see her website: Sue Gerrard Author) and the very talented Jamie Stockley, animator and producer (see his website: Jamie Stockley Home Page). Both guest speakers provided a positive and motivational pep talk about harnessing creativity, writing and animation skills.
It was an exciting opportunity for both students, as Tilly was also able to show off her love for art, doodling to Jamie and picked up a few tips to take away for the future to develop her love for art, whilst Queen was encouraged to keep progressing with her love for reading and creative writing to develop her future story telling and author interest. They both represented themselves and the school extremely well and we are very proud of them.
St Helens and Wigan Library Services are inclusive for all and provide opportunities that meet the needs and interest of young people.
