North West Counties
Final Score: St Edmund Arrowsmith 20 – 18 Great Sankey

Our Y9 rugby team produced a thrilling comeback victory against a strong Great Sankey side, securing a hard‑fought 20–18 win in the North West Counties competition and progressing to the quarter finals as pool winners guaranteeing a home draw in the next round.

The match began with intense physicality from both teams, but despite some promising attacking phases, St Edmund Arrowsmith went into half time trailing 6–10. With momentum against them, the squad gathered for a crucial team talk that proved to be a turning point. Refocused and fired up, the players returned to the field with renewed determination and belief.

The second half saw a transformed performance. SEA played with greater cohesion, discipline, and purpose, gradually taking control of the game. The defining moment came through Noah Richardson, who powered over the line to score what ultimately became the match‑winning try.

Throughout the game, Jack Gee was exceptional at hooker, guiding the team around the field. His decision‑making and leadership in the forwards were instrumental in building attacking pressure. Meanwhile, Ethan Butler, captaining the side for the day, delivered an outstanding performance — leading by example in defence, carrying with intent, and inspiring teammates across the pitch.

This narrow yet impressive 20–18 victory reflects the team’s resilience, character, and refusal to give in. It was a performance they can all be proud of and a strong statement in their North West Counties campaign.
