Over the May half-term break, a group of our Art and Spanish students travelled to Barcelona for an unforgettable 4-day cultural and educational visit.

Accompanied by staff, students experienced some of the city's most iconic landmarks, world-renowned artworks and unique cultural experiences, making memories that will stay with them for years to come.

The trip began with a visit to Casa Batlló, Antoni Gaudí's extraordinary modernist masterpiece. Students were captivated by the building's imaginative architecture, vibrant colours and flowing organic forms. Many commented on how seeing Gaudí's work in person provided fresh inspiration for their own creative projects.

Another highlight was our guided visit to the magnificent Sagrada Família. Students were genuinely amazed by the scale, detail and beauty of Gaudí's famous basilica. The stunning stained-glass windows and innovative architectural design left a lasting impression, with many describing it as one of the most remarkable buildings they had ever seen.

Throughout the visit, students also explored contemporary art at MACBA, discovered the work of Joan Miró, visited Palau Güell and travelled to Figueres to experience the surreal world of Salvador Dalí at the Dalí Museum. Alongside these artistic experiences, students had opportunities to practise their Spanish in authentic settings while navigating the city and interacting with local people.

One of the most memorable evenings was Barcelona's ghost tour, which took students through the city's historic streets while sharing fascinating stories, legends and mysteries from Barcelona's past. The tour proved to be both entertaining and educational and was a particular favourite among many students.

Staff were delighted with the enthusiasm and curiosity shown by all students throughout the visit. Barcelona provided the perfect classroom beyond the school gates, allowing students to deepen their understanding of art, architecture, language and culture while developing confidence and independence. We are proud of how they represented the school and look forward to future international visits.
