The SEA Year 9 football team booked their place in the final with a hard-fought and well-deserved semi-final victory over Standish High School last night.
In what proved to be a tightly contested encounter, chances were at a premium throughout the 70 minutes, with both sides demonstrating resilience and organisation. SEA looked the more threatening in spells, moving the ball well and probing for openings, but were repeatedly denied by a resolute Standish defence.
The game finished 1 - 1 at full time, with neither side able to find a decisive moment in regulation. SEA did feel aggrieved in the closing stages, with a strong appeal for a penalty waved away following a late challenge - a decision that added to the drama heading into extra time.
Despite the fatigue of a high-intensity contest, SEA showed real character and determination when it mattered most. In extra time, their quality began to tell. Aiden Merry broke the deadlock with a composed finish to give SEA the advantage, before Adam Kaczmarek sealed the victory with an excellent second goal, capping off a strong individual performance.
The final whistle confirmed a 3 - 1 victory after extra time and sparked celebrations as SEA has secured their place in the final.
This result means we now have 3 teams through to their respective finals, out of 4 entered which is a fantastic achievement for the school!
Attention now turns to the Y10 side, who will be looking to follow suit in their semi-final this evening.
