We were delighted to welcome a visit from Sophie Corcoran into school last week.  Sophie is a court reporter for "YorkshireLive" (a local online newspaper).

Sophie delivered a workshop to our year 10 Young Reporters on a career in journalism. Sophie shared how she forged her own career as a journalist, and the different paths that students can take into journalism. She also discussed the highs and lows of working in the media; where a journalism degree can take you and a day in the life of a court reporter.  The students even had a go at trying to use shorthand!

As part of Newsquest's Young Reporter scheme, our student journalists have so far written 36 articles for the St Helens Star, on topics ranging from theatre reviews to the dangers of AI, the history of Haydock and issues surrounding the cost-of-living crisis.

We are incredibly proud of our Young Reporters. Well done to Gabriella C, Grace C, Jacob S, Oliver BS, Rose L and Lucy W.
